Forbes and Statista’s Methodology In-Depth

“To determine the list of Canada’s Best Startup Employers 2024, Statista first identified a shortlist of 1,500 companies to evaluate. Qualifying startups were based in Canada, had at least 10 employees, and were founded between 2014 and 2021. Additionally, all companies considered were required to have been launched from scratch rather than spun out of existing enterprises and not to be publicly traded.
Each organization was then evaluated based on three main criteria: employer reputation, employee satisfaction and growth. To assess employer reputation, Statista searched articles, blogs and social media posts about each company—scanning for specific phrases such as “corporate culture” and “employee engagement”—and used text analysis to categorize those as positive, negative or neutral. Employee satisfaction was measured by researching employee retention and online reviews as well as by exploring the companies’ websites to gather information on employee offerings, such as benefits and flexible work hours. Growth was evaluated by examining the organizations’ website traffic, head counts and job listings. Ultimately, all of those data points were tallied into a scoring model, and the 200 companies with the highest total scores made our final list.”
