From the Coach’s Chair: How Thrive Closed The Gap Between Intake and Resume

The Problem
Valerie is an employment consultant at College Boreal in Barrie, Ontario, where she also coaches youth facing barriers to employment. Resume building has always been central to her work, but for years, that deliverable required at least one intake meeting and at least one hour to create. As a result, clients were often asked to return for a follow-up appointment to review.
The gap between sessions was enough for some people to fall off, especially clients navigating the barriers that brought them to career services in the first place. The coaching relationship often sailed before it started, and the one thing the client actually needed, a resume, was the one thing they didn’t leave with.

What Changed
When Val’s team adopted Thrive, her process changed. Before, clients had to come back for a second appointment just to review their resume, and some never did. Now they leave the first session with a professional application in hand and the ability to create more on their own on Thrive. For most of Valerie’s clients, the entire process takes about 15 to 30 minutes, allowing her not only to deliver better outcomes but also to free up capacity to help more people who need it.
What Clients Walk Away With
But the part Val talks about the most isn’t the speed. It’s what happens after. Because clients learn the tool during that first session, they can go home, duplicate their resume, rewrite the summary for a different posting, and adjust their highlights to match what an employer is looking for, without booking another appointment.
The way Val interacts with clients has also evolved. When a client updates a resume in Thrive, they don’t need to book another meeting. They simply message her, she opens the resume through Thrive’s Coach Control feature, reviews it, and adds her edits. Additionally, the job tracker feature keeps her informed of where applications stand, replacing the paper logs some clients maintained on their own.
As Val puts it: ”In a way, I feel like I’m teaching my clients to fish for themselves. Instead of leaving an intake session with a follow-up date and nothing in hand, they now leave with a resume in hand and a tool they can use themselves.”
What does this mean for Service Providers?
